DAY ONE

9:00 PM EST (11/13/04)

Well we are finally in the air as I am writing this.  According to the map on the overhead display we are a couple hundred miles out over the Atlantic.  Lets see how the flight has been so far shall we...  The good news is that on the 767 every seat back has a video display built it.   You can watch a variety of movies, TV shows, listen to music and even play video games!  Isn't technology wonderful.  The bad news is of all the video displays on the plane, mine DOES NOT WORK!!!  But wait, there's hope, the flight attendant says all they have to do is reset the display. Alright, now were talking.  Except that resetting my display does NOTHING!!!  So instead of watching one of Hollywood's new releases, I ordered a double Scotch and started writing this.  At least I have about 500 hours of music on my laptop's hard drive to listen to.  Oh, by the way, Karen's video monitor works just fine.

It's dinner time, chicken or beef, except by the time they reach us (we're located in the very back of the plane) it's chicken or chicken.  I wanted the chicken anyway but that's not the point.  Also, we are fortunate to have several small children and infants on the flight.  Unfortunately they are all in the seats in our immediately vicinity.  Not that they are bothering me.  I got the music cranked up in the headphones and with the ear squeeze from the decompression, I bet the captain can here it.

Maybe I'll write more later, right now I have my adult beverages to consume.

Midnight (or 5:00 AM GMT)

There is no way I can sleep sitting up.  Even my seats whole 5 degrees of recline are of no use. The plane is bouncing and my ass is sore.

--------

8:16 AM GMT

We have landed in Scotland, cleared customs, and are met by our uniformed driver.  Our Mercedes limo takes us to One Devonshire Gardens in style.

First impressions of One Devonshire Gardens...
Wow.  The hotel consists of five individual century old houses.  We're in house five. There are 5 guest rooms in house 5 and there are at lease 12 staff here to tend to any need or wish.

The windows are century old single panes so the drapes are thick and well insulated.  Note the coffee and tea sets on the table.  I just sat down in the lobby and a staff member asked if I would like some coffee.  Karen said she would have some tea.  Five minutes later, the lad showed up with a pot of strained brewed tea (no bags), fresh coffee, cups, lumps of white and brown sugar, milk and cream on a tray.  Not bad.  When we decided to return to our room, a staff member followed us with the tray.

The king size bed is very comfortable and every detail has been well thought out.
(note the Bose wave radio/CD player as an alarm clock).

When we asked where can we get some ice, we were told we can't.
Ice would be brought to us in a bucket covered with linen.

I don't golf but a putter set-up in our room was a nice touch.
It automatically ejects the ball back to you.

Here's our key.
Since each house is staffed 24/7, you leave the key with the staff when ever you leave.

If the room is great, the bathroom is amazing!

A deep soaking tub with mahogany surround.

Mahogany shelves and sinks and a separate shower.

Shampoo and bath foam.  No little bottles here.
