THE BAHAMAS ADVENTURE

12/18/00 (Monday)
We fueled up the boat and left Treasure Cay this morning around 10AM heading
for
Great Guana Cay. The northern end of this cay is uninhabited and has
some of the nicest beaches in the Bahamas.
We
arrived after 1 1/2 hours of sailing and anchored off about 200 feet from shore
in shallow water. The three of us piled into the dingy when Diane tried to
climb back on the boat and fell overboard. We retrieved her and stated
paddling toward shore.
The
shore of this cay was composed of sand beaches and razor sharp coral patches.
We hiked a half mile around to the East side of the cay to a beautiful beach
about 2 miles long. The turquoise waves were breaking on the white sands
and there was no other person in sight.
It
was an exhausting walk over sand and coral but well worth the effort. The
seas breaking over the coral outcroppings through
spray 30 feet into the air.
It was an all natural vision. One that never saw the hand of man.
We ate lunch back onboard and then headed for Marsh Harbor about 10 miles
away. Pulling into March Harbor we found ourselves to be one of about 50
boats in the harbor. We anchored and dinged to shore for a little walk.
We walked into town looking for a Pizza Hut that has a conch topping! After a couple of miles and no sign of the hut we grabbed a cab and headed back
to a restaurant near where we tied off the dingy.
After dinner we piled back into the dingy and with me rowing proceeded to
cover the entire harbor looking for Seaclusion. Eventually we found it and
turned in for the night.
